GPW Newsletter August 2025

Welcome to the special research edition of the GPW Newsletter!

With the Genomics Research Strategy for Wales due to launch in early 2026, led by a newly appointed National Genomics Research Lead, this is an exciting and important time for genomics research in Wales. Genomics research is transforming health care — helping to deliver faster and more accurate diagnoses, improving patient care, and creating new opportunities to improve population health.

As 2025 draws to a close, we wanted to reflect on some of the inspiring research initiatives taking place across the programme. These include potentially life-changing cancer diagnostics, improved access to clinical trials, and more effective ways of working that ultimately benefit patients.

In this edition, we also hear from Patient and Public Sounding Board Member and PPIE Programme Board Representative, Georgina Ferguson-Glover, who shares her reflections on attending the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Showcase Event at Cardiff University Medical School. We also provide an update on the Genomics Delivery Plan for Wales (2022–2025), which is currently open to the public, patients and NHS professionals for feedback. Finally, we look ahead to some of the activity planned for early 2026, which will offer many opportunities for patients and the public to learn more about advances in genomics research in Wales.

As always, we welcome your feedback. If you would like to share your thoughts on this newsletter, please email GenomicspartnershipWales@wales.nhs.uk.
