This first-of-its-kind event in Wales offers a welcoming space for knowledge sharing, collaboration and innovation. The programme includes engaging talks, panel discussions and interactive sessions for all to enjoy. Attendees will hear about cutting-edge research, how science is being applied in real-world situations, and how genomics is shaping the future of health and medicine in Wales and beyond.

The showcase will feature:

  • Informative sessions from leading genomic researchers and health professionals and talks to highlight lived experiences of genetic conditions
  • Opportunities for networking and collaboration
  • Interactive and hands-on sessions for the public to explore genomic science first hand

The event is taking place in person at Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff. Unfortunately, there is no hybrid element to the event.

We are bringing together patients and those affected by rare conditions, healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, charity representatives and anyone with an interest in genomics to learn more, create dialogue and explore genomics in Wales. It is designed to be as inclusive as possible.

Signing up to the Genomic Showcase waiting list means you will be the first to be alerted when more tickets become available. You will then need to book a ticket as normal through the booking link. The waiting list does not automatically reserve a ticket should more become available, and tickets will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration at the event opens at 8:15am with the first talk will begin at 9:15am.

On arrival, you will be directed upstairs for registration to pick up your badge and event guide for the day. There will be opportunities to browse the exhibition stands, posters, poetry and pictures area and network with others before the talks begin at 9.15am.

No, the day is designed to be drop-in and drop-out, so you can come for as long or as short a time as you like. We will be publishing our programme at the end of March so you can see clearly what is happening during the day and decide which sessions you would like to attend.

Yes! Even if you feel that the sessions are not for you, there is still plenty to see and do, as we will be hosting a range of interactive stands for you to explore and other activities to get involved with.

The day has been designed with adult members of the public and professionals in mind. We would welcome university students who wish to attend; however, we unfortunately will not be able to accommodate schools and colleges on organised trips.

If you would like to learn more about our educational genomic activities, have you considered signing up to our Teachers’ Network? It is the first place to hear about opportunities for students to engage with cutting-edge genomics.

If you are coming by car, access from the motorway is easy. Leave the M4 at Junction 33 and take the A4232 towards Cardiff/Barry. Exit the A4232 onto the B4267, signposted Cardiff City Stadium. Please enter through our Main Entrance, directly off the A4232.

The Stadium postcode is CF11 8AZ. However, please note that following a Satellite Navigation System may direct you through Cardiff city centre, potentially adding around 30 minutes to your journey.

Alternative ways to get to Cardiff City Stadium:

By Train: From Cardiff Central, supporters can travel to Ninian Park or Grangetown. It is then a 10 minute walk to the stadium from Grangetown or 5 minutes from Ninian Park.

By Taxi: Taxis are readily available across the city. You can pre book a ‘Private Hire’ or hail a black and white cab. A trip from the City Centre to the stadium costs between £7 – £10.

You are welcome to use the showcase for this purpose; however, the session isn’t accredited with any organisation and we will not be providing certificates of attendance.

We are working hard to finalise an exciting agenda highlighting as many areas of genomics in Wales as possible. Announcements of speakers will be made very shortly via the Genomics Showcase page.

There are a range of sponsorship opportunities available for companies wishing to support and attend the Genomic Showcase. If you would like to find out more or book a sponsorship package, please get in touch via email: readyc@cardiff.ac.uk.

Photographers and videographers will be capturing images and footage at the event. Please let a member of the volunteer team know (wearing green sashes) if you do not wish to be captured.

The event has been designed in collaboration with Genomic Partnership Wales’ Patient and Public Sounding Board, ensuring that patient voice is at the heart of the day.

There is lift access and step-free access across all three floors of the venue. There are accessible toilets on most floors of the Grandstand: one inside reception, one on Level 2, two on Level 3 and two on Level 4. All accessible toilets can be accessed using a RADAR key. Cardiff City Stadium advises that visitors bring their own RADAR key when attending the event.

There is also a Changing Places facility available on the third floor. The Changing Places facility includes a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, a mobile hoist, a height-adjustable sink, a screen to provide privacy, and a wide tear-off paper roll to cover the bench. Please note that the hoist is only compatible with a loop sling, and attendees will need to bring this with them.

Hearing loops will be available at all talks and sessions, as well as access to sensory and quiet spaces for attendees. Stadium parking includes accessible parking options.

If you have a question that is not answered here, it is probably something we need to add. Please get in touch with us at walesgenepark@cardiff.ac.uk, and we will be happy to help you directly.
